This International Correspondence Schools ad in a 1937 issue of Popular Mechanics magazine made me laugh when I saw it, so I figured it was worth posting to see how you react to it. As a lifelong consumer of technical and do-it-yourself type magazines, I remember always seeing advertisements for at−home learning courses, as well as many campus-based training for fields that require hands−on work with engines, machinery, boats, trains, airplanes, etc. Local, state, and federal code books were not bursting at their bindings with rules and regulations on every aspect of business from initial registration to specific kinds of goods and services you were permitted to ply your trade toward, and for whom you might be willing to work. A man could fairly easily gain enough knowledge through self-study to start his own business and/or qualify for an apprenticeship with experienced operators - often without a large investment in equipment. Interestingly, there do not seem to be any courses offered in areas like diversity, equity, and inclusion, social engineering, gender studies, and other critical fields that contribute so mightily to the success of companies and nations. How did the U.S. manage to gain its enormous economic, technical, and military might without it?

RF Cafe began life in 1996 as "RF Tools" in an AOL screen name web space totaling 2 MB. Its primary purpose was to provide me with ready access to commonly needed formulas and reference material while performing my work as an RF system and circuit design engineer. The World Wide Web (Internet) was largely an unknown entity at the time and bandwidth was a scarce commodity. Dial-up modems blazed along at 14.4 kbps while tying up your telephone line, and a nice lady's voice announced "You've Got Mail" when a new message arrived...
