Engineering Career Tips for October 28, 2014

Engineering Career News & Tips for October 28, 2014 - RF CafeIf you are soon likely to find yourself in the position of an interviewer or an interviewee, fear not. There is plenty of advice available for consideration. What you don't say can be as critical as what you do say. As someone who has been the successful interviewee at least a dozen times throughout my electronics career (only one attempt failed), my advice if you don't like rejection is as follows, in order of importance: 1) Do not apply for a position for which you are not fully qualified. 2) Optimize your resume and cover letter for the specific position. 3) Know something about the company's history and mission and a particular current project if possible. 4) Dress professionally even in the age of casual. 5) Do not try to BS the interviewer - chances are they are at least as smart as you. 6) Bring along a notepad and pencil and use it to take notes and write down names. 7) Thank each person sincerely for the opportunity to visit. 8) Send a follow-up letter to every person (even the HR person) via snail mail.
